Computer Networks
Research Group

The Computer Networks Group of the Institute of Informatics at UFRGS is recognized both nationally and internationally.
It was responsible for the organization of the first edition of the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (SBRC), in 1983. The group stands out for forming well-qualified human resources (in Undergraduate, M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels) and, most importantly, for its excellence in research, with a wide array of publications in top tier-conferences and journals and a high number of citations. Among its members, four are CNPq research fellows. Moreover, many have been, historically, leading highly relevant research projects and collaborations with Brazilian and international partners (including countries such as the United States, England, Canada, France, Israel, Russia, and others) as well as actively participating in the coordination of several Brazilian scientific conferences (e.g., SBRC 1983, 1989, 2004, 2010 and 2019, and SBSeg 2008), in addition to international ones (e.g., LANOMS 2005, CNSM 2014, and SIGCOMM 2016). Moreover, members of the group participate in the technical program committee of major conferences and compose the editorial board of a wide range of journals in the area.
